Thailand is holding free stargazing events around a rare Moon-Venus spectacle, The Star reports. The events are tied to a lunar occultation of Venus, the term NASA uses for the Moon passing in front of the planet. The Star's report is dated Friday, 11 September 2026.
A lunar occultation occurs when the Moon crosses between Earth and a planet, briefly hiding it from view. NASA lists the event under the name Lunar Occultation of Venus.
The timing follows a broader change in Venus's visibility. Space reports that Venus is disappearing from the evening sky, and advises viewers to look for it while they still can. Inshorts reports that Venus will reach peak brilliance on 18 September and will be visible to the naked eye, adding that September also holds other skywatching events. Mid-Island Times framed its coverage as a farewell to Venus.
